Features of the app

Over 300 race meets are covered every year – That’s every race meeting at all the 15 courses listed above. From the massive festivals like Cheltenham and Aintree for the Grand National to the quieter meets. There’s always something going on if you want to head for a day out at the races!

Racecards

A great addition to this app is the racecards for each of the events. Usually, if you’re going to the track then you’ll buy a race card for around £2-£4 depending on the event. This has all the details of the runners and riders in each race plus the owner’s information and the recent form of the horse. Along with this, you’ll get the horse’s official rating, weight and age.

Digital racecards on the app

The race cards have recently gone digital with more information than ever before. You’ll find real-time information and the latest tips 24 hours before the race starts. You can start checking out the races and horses the day before you go!

Betting

We were surprised to see that whilst there are odds displayed on the app there’s no facility to get your bets on. This is probably to push you to use the on-course betting stands, which in our opinion you should do as it’s all part of the fun of the day. Betting is something we’d expect to see added at some point on this app in the future to make it even easier to get your bets on.

Raceday 5 Competition

The Jockey Club regularly have competitions on both the app and social media (Twitter @TheJockeyClub). These range from winning tickets to races to other giveaways. The app has a built-in game for you to pick horses and win points, this is a fantasy game to pick 5 horses a day that you think will win.

Raceday 5 game

You select your daily “sure thing” along with 5 other horses and get points if they win. The higher the odds of the horse the more points you get. If a bit like daily fantasy football just with horses and you can pick whichever horses you want. The points are then accumulated in a league so you can see if you are a horse racing expert or just a novice punter!

Plan your day

One of the handiest features of the Jockey Club app is the plan your day tab. This is great to check everything you need to know before you set off and to make sure you don’t get turned away with the wrong dress code!

You can find tickets for the races here and buy them through the app. These will accrue Jockey club points like all purchases which can then be exchanged for money off other purchases or free days at the races.

There are full details of where to park at the racecourse which is a great help at the busier festivals. It’s also handy to check out and make sure you get the car park closest to where your stand is to avoid having to walk the length of the racecourse to get in!

This is also where you’ll find the race card as mentioned above along with a small history of each course.

Get the beers in!!!

At the larger race meets there is a separate app from the Jockey Club where you can get the beers in! Simply tap the course and the nearest bar and you can order your drinks in advance for collection at a certain time.

This is awesome and saves a big queue when the bar is 3 deep. Tap what you want to order, pay the bill and then just arrive at the collection point at the right time and get your drinks. The perfect thing for planning a day at the races.

About the Jockey Club

Formed in 1790 the Jockey Club has been around a long time and has evolved to still be at the forefront of racing today. It was previously responsible for the governance of UK racing but is now a corporate structure that runs racecourses instead.

It has various other arms including training grounds, a thoroughbred program and their racing charity racing welfare which helps people in the racing industry who need it.
